S.Korean Fishing Vessel Illegally Entered Japan's EEZ

A joint probe by South Korea and Japan has found that a South Korean fishing vessel illegally entered Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) Thursday.

The South Korean Coast Guard said that the owner of the boat has been fined 3.35 million won as a result.

The South Korean coast guard added that since there was no evidence that the boat was fishing illegally, and in consideration of bilateral goodwill, the South Korean “33 Ssangyong” fishing vessel will not be towed to Japan.

The “33 Ssangyong” left Ganggu port in southeastern Korea on Monday and was chased by four Japanese patrol boats at around 8:50 Thursday morning in waters 67 kilometers east of the Dokdo islets for having illegally entered the Japanese EEZ.
