The White House says North Korea will be a key topic of discussion among security issues that will be addressed at the upcoming U.S.-China summit.
National Security Advisor Tom Donilon said in a press briefing on Friday, local time, that North Korea has been obviously an important issue from the outset of the Obama administration. He added that the issue has become very important in the last couple of months given the North’s provocations.
Donilon added that Washington has worked with China on various sanctions regimes around the North. He said in the last couple of months, the two countries have worked on encouraging the North to cease the provocations and to push back towards a diplomatic frame, especially conversation directly between the North and the South.
Donilon said other key topics related to security that will be discussed at the summit include Iran and Iran’s nuclear program, efforts by South Sudan to seek independence from the north and boosting U.S.-China military relations.
