Chinese President Hu Jintao says he expects concerned nations to take active measures to foster an environment that will allow for the swift resumption of the stalled six-party nuclear talks.

Hu made the remark in an interview with the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal ahead of his trip to the U.S. to meet with President Barack Obama on Wednesday.

Hu also said that China supports a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula achieved through dialogue and consultation in order to maintain peace and stability on the peninsula.

On Korean unification, Hu said that as a friend and close neighbor of both South and North Korea, China hopes the two can improve ties, reconcile, cooperate through dialogue, and ultimately realize an independent and peaceful unification.
