China has called for the swift resumption of the six-way nuclear talks and has vowed to play a constructive role in resolving issues related to the Korea Peninsula.

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue told Xinhua News Agency on Sunday that Beijing will continuously work with related countries and the international community to secure peace, stability and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

Hu also stressed the need to promptly resume the stalled six-way nuclear negotiations. He urged that all concerned parties actively contact one another and work to restart efforts for dialogue.

He added that peace and security on the Korean Peninsula faced serious threats last year in the wake of the sinking of the “Cheonan” naval ship and North Korea’s shelling of Yeonpyeong Island. He said that China’s active mediatory efforts helped to resolve the tensions.
