A Japanese daily says that Japan’s Foreign Ministry is seeking to hold a trilateral summit in May in Tokyo.

The Mainichi Shimbun on Tuesday reported that the ministry plans to bring together South Korea, China, and Japan as this year marks Japan’s turn to host the annual summit.

The paper added that Japan will also host a foreign ministers meeting with China and South Korea in March in Kyoto before the trilateral summit.

Meanwhile, Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun daily said that Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara on Monday met with Chinese ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua to confirm his attendance to the upcoming foreign ministers meeting.
