A Chinese media organization has commended the South Korean Navy for its rescue of the crew of a South Korean freighter from Somali pirates last Friday.

The China News Service said Monday that South Korea’s rescue operation for the “Samho Jewelry” ended successfully due to careful planning and swift implementation. The report noted the extreme difficulty of attempting to raid a hijacked ship while hostages and pirates are gathered together.

In particular, the report noted that South Korea informed the captured Korean crew to evacuate to a safe place via a broadcast in Korean prior to the rescue.
