Japan's LDP Underlines Territorial Claims over Dokdo

Japan’s main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is strongly advocating territorial sovereignty over South Korea’s easternmost islets of Dokdo.

Japan’s Asahi Shimbun said Monday that during its recent party convention, the LDP played images on large screens that promoted Japan’s territorial claims over Dokdo as well as islands in the East China Sea called “Diaoyu” in Chinese and “Senkaku” in Japanese.

The paper added that the LDP’s secretary-general, Nobuteru Ishihara, and one of the party’s members of the House of Councillors, Junko Mihara, discussed territorial disputes during the recent party gathering.
