Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan says that Japan will seek a comprehensive resolution on pending issues regarding North Korea and normalized ties with the communist country.
Kan on Monday released Tokyo's security and diplomacy policies for this year, which includes the plans presented during a speech at the opening of this year's Diet session.
Kan urged the North to halt further provocations, such as the sinking of the Cheonan naval vessel, the artillery attack on Yeonpyeong Island and its uranium enrichment program.
The prime minister said that Tokyo will seek a normalization of ties with Pyongyang as well as a comprehensive resolution of various issues in relation with the North, including Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea and the communist state's nuclear program.
As for South Korea, Kan said that Tokyo will seek to establish future-oriented relations by further enhancing its cooperative ties with Seoul.
