US Calls NK Nukes a Global Concern

The U.S. says that the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is not just a regional matter but a global concern.

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told a daily briefing Monday that the six-party process was put in place to deal with the denuclearization issue and that the elimination of nuclear weapons on the peninsula involves more than just the United States and North Korea.

Crowley said the issue is of broad international concern and needs to be resolved internationally, not just bilaterally.

His remarks come amid moves by South and North Korea to review high-level talks on denuclearization.
The U.S. has, on multiple occasions, reaffirmed its opposition to Pyongyang's consistent requests for bilateral talks with Washington to discuss the nuclear issue.
