S.Korean Warship Obtains Permission to Enter Oman Port

South Korea’s “Choi Young” destroyer and a South Korean-operated freighter rescued last Friday from Somali pirates have received the go-ahead to enter a port in Oman.

The Choi Young, which is part of the counter-piracy Cheonghae Naval Unit that operates in the Gulf of Aden, was used to lead the operation to rescue the “Samho Jewelry” from Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea.

A vice spokesman from South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said the two vessels will enter Port Sultan Qaboos in Oman’s capital of Muscat on Thursday, Korean time, after having asked for permission to do so on Sunday.

The ships are bringing with them five pirates who were captured alive as well as the bodies of eight other pirates who were killed during the rescue operation.
