S.Korean Unit, US Troops in Afghanistan to Hold Joint Drill

The South Korean unit that is charged with protecting the nation’s provincial reconstruction team in Afghanistan is expected to conduct a joint military drill with U.S. troops stationed there.

A government official said Friday that the drill is aimed at strengthening the South Korean "Ashena" unit's capability to jointly monitor and respond to terrorist forces with the U.S. military.

The drill will include analyzing trends of enemy forces and effectively responding to threats by predicting possible attack methods.

The South Korean unit is also expected to establish an around-the-clock data-sharing system between South Korea and the U.S.

Meanwhile, a government official added that those responsible for the Tuesday rocket attack on the base for the Korean provincial reconstruction team are not believed to belong to a terrorist organization.
