Released Trawler Arrives at Mombasa

A hijacked South Korean trawler that was released by Somali pirates last week has entered the Kenyan port of Mombasa.

The “Geummi 305” was released on Wednesday and left Somalia for the Kenyan port under the escort of a Finnish warship. The trawler arrived at the port around 2 p.m. Tuesday, Korea time.

The 241-ton trawler entered the port after customs and quarantine procedures were administered. The crew members disembarked the vessel after their health conditions were assessed.

The 43 crew members of the Geummi, including two South Koreans, are reportedly very tired but have no critical health problems.

The trawler, hijacked in October of last year, was released by the pirates after they determined that the bankrupt owner of the ship was unlikely to pay any ransom demands.
