Police in Kenya have apprehended a local woman there as part of the investigation into the death of the chief engineer of a South Korean fishing boat that was released last week after being held captive by Somali pirates.

Police said Friday that they are questioning the woman at the scene of Kim Yong-hyeon’s death at a hotel in Mombasa.

The 68-year-old chief engineer of the "Geummi 305" died after falling from the fourth floor of the hotel at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, local time. Kim had been staying at the hotel after the fishing boat arrived at the Kenyan port city from Somali waters on Tuesday.

A member of the hotel’s staff told police that Kim was heard arguing with the Kenyan woman on the day he died.

Local police there held two rounds of on-site inspections at the hotel, with officials from the Foreign Ministry in Seoul attending.

The police will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death with consent from Kim’s family and the South Korean Embassy in Kenya.
