The Foreign Ministry says that one of two South Koreans shot by armed assailants in Paraguay last Friday has recovered consciousness.

A ministry official says that a 21-year-old South Korean, identified as Lee, has regained consciousness and is now eating and accepting visitors.

But the other victim, a 20-year-old identified as Jeong, is still in a critical state and is being monitored closely.

The ministry says that following the incident, the South Korean ambassador in Paraguay met with top government officials there to discuss the situation and to ask for a prompt investigation into the shooting.
