Self-Defense Forces Transport Relief Supplies to Quake Victims

Japan’s Self-Defense Forces are making all-out efforts to transport relief supplies to victims of the massive earthquake.

Japan’s Mainichi Shimbun daily reported on Thursday that the Japanese government ordered the Self-Defense Forces to lead efforts to transport to the quake victims relief supplies such as bread, instant noodles and gasoline.

The paper added that the forces shipped some 600-thousand items of noodles and water on Wednesday alone, showing a significant improvement in the transport.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano on Thursday asked the public not to resort to panic buying of fuel and other products, saying there is no problem with fuel supply across the country.

Edano called for the public to stay calm and supportive so that the government can secure quake-hit regions and send supplies to those in need.
