VAAC Downplays Warnings

The London Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres (VAAC) say the nuclear emergency warnings they issued for ten airspace regions following the Fukushima power plant crisis in Japan were simply an advisory notice.

The warnings were issued for ten airspace regions including Japan, South Korea, China, Russia and the U.S.
Some foreign media outlets reported the warnings as an issuance of a nuclear alert.

The VAAC says the issuance was based on guidelines to which it must adhere and warned against overanalyzing the meaning.
