Power lines have been connected to the Unit Two and Five nuclear reactors at the Number One Fukushima power plant in Japan.
Power is now able to be transmitted to inside the reactor buildings.
The operator of the power plant, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), has worked over the weekend to restore electricity to the Unit One and Two reactors. It says it completed charging power to the outside power center by Sunday afternoon, and in the case of reactor Two, power lines have been connected to inside the reactor building.
Meanwhile, the cooling function of Unit Five and Six reactors was restored Saturday and power has been restored to reactor Five.
TEPCO says that now that the power is on, should the cooling pumps resume operation soon, the fuel rods can stop melting and prevent a crisis.
Some 80 tons of sea water was also dropped on the Unit Four reactor to cool its temperature inside. The situation at the Unit Five and Six reactors has somewhat stabilized as temperatures of their fuel rod cooling tanks have dropped some 30 degrees.
