Contamination of Food, Water Spreads in Japan

Fear of a secondary contamination is spreading due to the radioactive leaks from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

In a town near the power plant, radioactive iodine has been found in tap water with the amount exceeding the standard level.

The Health Ministry in Tokyo has advised the townspeople not to drink the water. The town is 30 kilometers northwest of the power plant.

Although radioactive elements were also detected earlier in Tokyo and other areas as well, it's the first time to see iodine levels exceeding the standard amount.

Contamination of agricultural products is also spreading. Excessive levels of radioactive substances have been found in milk, spinach and crown daisies.

Asian nations, including South Korea, as well as the U.S. have begun inspections on Japanese food imports.
