Japan will reportedly close down all six reactors at the Fukushima Number One nuclear power plant that was stricken by a devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11th.
According to Japan’s Asahi Shimbun, the operator of the power plant, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), has concluded that the re-operation of the Number One, Two, Three and Four nuclear reactors is technically impossible since their roofs were blown away during a hydrogen explosion following the earthquake and the fuel rods in the reactor core melted down.
TEPCO has also reportedly come to the conclusion that the closing of the Number Five and Six reactors, which didn’t suffer a considerable amount of damage from the quake, will be inevitable, when the locals’ negative sentiment against the nuclear power plant is taken into account.
Local governments in areas near the Fukushima nuclear power plant are also strongly demanding the central government to resolve the situation by closing down the nuclear power plant.
