The U.S. says that a joint military strike on Libya, which was conducted by U.S. and European forces, has been successful.
Navy Vice Admiral William Gortney, a spokesman for the Department of Defense, told a news conference that the multinational operation was very successful in degrading the air defense capability of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s regime.
He added that the Libyan regime has not launched any aircraft from the locations that were hit nor were there any radar emissions detected from the air defense sites targeted by the joint strike.
Gortney also said that he had no indication of civilian casualties, denying the Gadhafi regime’s claim that dozens of civilians were killed amid the multinational military intervention.
The spokesman said that he is doubtful of Libya’s declaration of a cease-fire on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Liam Fox, the U.K.’s Secretary of State for Defence, told BBC that he received a report that the joint military strike on the North African country was very successful.
