Japan Bans Radiation Contaminated Agro Products

Japan’s Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry is urging its people not to eat eleven agricultural products found to have excessive radioactive substances due to the Fukushima nuclear power plant radiation leakage.

According to Kyodo News, the ministry made the call after consultation with the Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan as the food items are found to have radiation contamination that exceeds legal limits set under the government’s food sanitation laws.

A special law enacted in response to the nuclear disaster has set a temporary ban on the sale of the eleven foods, including radishes and milk produced in Fukushima Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture.

The order comes after agricultural products from the two regions were found to contain radioactive materials 160 times as high as the standard level.
