Tokyo Tap Water Unfit For Babies

Tokyo Water Bureau warned on Wednesday that the radiation level in the capital’s tap water is too high for babies.

A water treatment center in Japan’s capital detected 210 becquerels per liter of iodine 131 in some water.

This is twice the level deemed to be safe for infants although there is no immediate health risk to adults.

Radiation levels in Tokyo’s atmosphere have also risen sharply with the level of iodine-131 standing at eleven times higher than normal levels and the level of caesium-134 nine-point-four times higher.

The level of radiation in Tokyo, which is around 250 kilometers away from the Fukushima Number One nuclear power plant, jumped sharply after it rained in the capital city on Monday and Tuesday. In particular, caesium-134 was detected for the first time on Monday.
