The death toll from the massive earthquake that devastated northeastern Japan on March 11 has exceeded ten-thousand.
The Japanese police said that up to this point in time, a total of 11-thousand people have been confirmed dead. When counting the 17-thousand missing, the toll will likely climb to 27-thousand.
Japan’s broadcaster NHK reported that efforts have resumed Friday morning to restore electricity to the Fukushima Number One nuclear power plant, the site where a radiation leakage occurred. The work is focusing on the Unit One to Unit Four reactors.
Tokyo Electric Power Company, which operates the power plant, has sent electricity to the four reactors to check for malfunctions in the pumps.
The Unit One reactor, where temperature and pressure surged to dangerous levels Thursday, has reportedly stabilized somewhat as figures shows a substantial drop in numbers from early Friday morning.
Radioactive substances began leaking out of the power plant following hydrogen explosions at the plant caused by a powerful earthquake two weeks ago.
