S.Korea to Respond Resolutely to Japanese Textbook Distortions

Monitoring of Japanese middle school textbooks have found that there is a high likelihood of South Korea’s easternmost islets of Dokdo being described in a way that distorts Korea’s sovereignty over them. Seoul has said it will respond resolutely and is devising measures.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae told reporters Monday that upon review if Japan claims sovereignty over the islets or distorts historical facts, South Korea will resolutely and sternly respond.

He added that effective measures will continue to be implemented to manage sovereignty over the islets.

South Korean government agencies held a meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss concrete response measures.

The government is reportedly mulling renovating a helicopter take off landing pad, which would be done separately from diplomatic measures, to strengthen its effective governance over the islets.
