'Carter to Use Visit to Persuade NK to Abandon Nukes'

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is known to use his scheduled visit to North Korea later this month to persuade the North Korean leadership to abandon nuclear weapons.

The Associated Press cited Carter as making the remark during a human rights conference held at The Carter Center in Atlanta on Wednesday.

But the former president didn't reveal a detailed itinerary of his visit to the North.

Carter is scheduled to visit the communist state for three days from April 26th accompanied by members of "The Elders," an independent group of former global leaders, including a former Irish president Mary Robinson.
