Japan Informs S.Korea that Fukushima is OK

The Japanese government had quickly notified South Korea of a powerful seven-point-four-magnitude earthquake that was detected in waters off Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture at around 11:32 p.m. Thursday.

According to the South Korean embassy in Japan on Friday, Japan’s Foreign Ministry contacted South Korean officials some 50 minutes after the earthquake occurred in waters off Miyagi Prefecture. Japan said that the newest quake has not impacted the Fukushima Number One nuclear power plant, which suffered a series of explosions from the March eleventh earthquake and subsequently has been leaking radiation.

The embassy said the Japanese government appears to be making efforts to be quick in relaying information.

A South Korean embassy official said that Japan notified the South Korean embassy of the situation at the Fukushima power plant, as it is the point of greatest concern.
