Senators Urge Probe Into Alleged NK-Myanmar Military Ties

U.S. senators have urged the Obama administration to conduct probe into alleged nuclear and military cooperation between North Korea and Myanmar.

Senator Richard Lugar, who is the ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, introduced a resolution that calls on President Barack Obama to present Congress with a report after investigation into the two nations' ties and also on alleged crimes against humanity in Myanmar.

Lugar's resolution was cosponsored by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell and Senator James Inhofe.

In the resolution, the three senators said North Korea is reported to have provided missiles and other weapons to Myanmar and supported Myanmar’s nuclear development efforts.

Lugar said “greater attention should be focused on the details and scope of military equipment and technology transferred from North Korea to Burma," using Myanmar's former name.
