'Carter to Discuss Inter-Korean Tension, Food Crisis in NK Trip'

"The Elders," an independent group of former global leaders, has confirmed that its members are seeking a trip to North Korea, saying the visitors will discuss ways to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and a food crisis in the North during the trip.

The group on Saturday issued a news release, saying it is concerned about heightened tension on the peninsula and the critical food condition in the North.

According to the group, its small-sized delegation is seeking to visit Pyongyang late this month to discuss the issues with North Korean officials. However, it stated that the plans for the trip have not been finalized yet.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a member of "The Elders," is scheduled to visit the communist state for three days from April 26th accompanied by other members.
