A leading Japanese daily says the South Korean government has requested Tokyo that they jointly hold a seawater-radiation investigation.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun quoted Tuesday sources both in Seoul and Tokyo as saying that the South Korean government had made the request following Japan’s discharge of radioactive contaminated water from the quake-crippled Fukushima Number One nuclear power plant. According to the article, the study would be a joint one as it will analyze not only the contamination of their seas, the effects of the contaminated water on fishing, but also the quality of Japan’s territorial waters.
The report said Tokyo is mulling how it will respond to Seoul’s recent request.
Seoul’s request comes a little less than a week after Tokyo apologized for dumping radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima plant into the Pacific Ocean without giving prior notice on the matter to neighboring countries.
