USTR to Send 3 FTAs in Separate Bills to Congress

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk says that free trade agreements with South Korea, Columbia and Panama will be separately submitted to Congress for ratification.

Speaking at an event in Washington on Wednesday, Kirk said it's “highly unlikely” the Obama administration would send the three pending trade deals in one legislative package to Congress.

Kirk said he's very confident the trade deals will pass. Kirk said packaging them together under one vote could lead to procedural challenges in Congress.

He said steps for congressional deliberation are ready for the Korea and Panama deals and the same will follow for the Columbia FTA.
