North Korea and the United States concluded high-level talks on Friday in New York that both nations say were “constructive.”
Following the talks, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan said the talks were very productive and he'll try to continue that momentum in the future.
U.S. special representative for North Korea policy Stephen Bosworth said the talks were "constructive and business-like." He said that North Korea is free to resume talks on improving relations with Washington and creating greater regional stability if Pyongyang demonstrates that it supports the resumption of six-party dialogue "as a committed and constructive partner."
Bosworth said the U.S. will consult with parties of the six-way talks including South Korea and decide on the next steps after those meetings.
During the first day of dialogue on Thursday, both sides acknowledged their differences but also the need for consultation. They reportedly discussed at the meeting the denuclearization process, normalizing bilateral relations and the resumption of the six-way talks.
