EU Offers 200,000 Euros to NK Flood Victims

The Voice of America reports that the European Union has offered 200-thousand euros to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to help North Korea recover from recent flood damage.

The U.S.-based broadcaster added that the IFRC included the 200-thousand euros in its 590-thousand-U.S. dollar emergency fund, which was executed on August second to help North Korean flooding victims.

U.N. agencies have asked North Korea to present data on the damage it suffered from the recent flooding, before deciding to provide flood relief.

The head of the U.N. Development Program’s office in Pyongyang said that North Korean authorities had submitted materials on the damages inflicted by floods to the U.N. But he added that the materials were insufficient for U.N. agencies to offer aid to the North. They have asked for additional, more detailed data.
