Senior presidential secretary for foreign affairs and national security Chun Young-woo arrived in Washington on Tuesday to discuss ways to resume the stalled six-way nuclear talks.
During his four-day stay, Chun will meet with National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, among other top officials, and discuss the course of dialogue after a meeting of U.S. and North Korean officials in New York last month. Chun will also discuss ways to get the nuclear negotiations back on track.
Chun’s talks with U.S. officials are also expected to center on North Korea’s uranium enrichment program, food aid for the North and a discussion between the North and the U.S. over allowing ethnic Koreans living in the U.S. to hold temporary reunions with their relatives living in the North.
The senior secretary is also slated to meet with Special Representative for North Korea Policy Stephen Bosworth, who represented the U.S. during last month’s North Korea-U.S. meeting in New York. Chun will work with Bosworth on ways to respond to views the North revealed on contentious issues during the talks last month.
