China, Japan to Discuss Stalled Nuke Talks

China and Japan are set to discuss the issue of the six-way nuclear talks that have been at a stalemate since 2009.

Japan’s top nuclear negotiator Shinsuke Sugiyama will visit China on Wednesday and meet with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei.

The two officials are expected to exchange views on a high-level meeting between U.S. and North Korean officials that took place in New York last month. They will also address additional efforts that will need to be taken to resume the stalled nuclear talks.

Last week, Wu met with North Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-kwan in Beijing and discussed the results of last month’s U.S.-North Korea meeting. Kim headed the North’s delegation to the New York talks.
