Canada Strengthens Sanctions against NK

Canada has strengthened sanctions against North Korea.

Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said in a statement on Monday that it decided to tighten sanctions against the North to "reinforce the message to the North Korean government that its aggressive actions, such as the sinking of the Cheonan, are unacceptable.”

With the strengthened sanctions, Canada will ban all exports, imports and new investment with the communist state. Canada will also prohibit the provision of financial services and technical data to Pyongyang.

However, Canada decided not to include humanitarian assistance and provision of food and medical supplies in its sanctions towards the North.
