Int’l Red Cross Asks for Aid to Help NK Flood Victims

The Voice of America is reporting that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has asked the international community to offer four-point-four million U.S. dollars in aid for North Korean flood victims.

VOA said that the ICRC would use the aid to help 30-thousand people in Cheongdan, Yeonan and Bongcheon in South Hwanghae Province. Of those people, children under five years old, the elderly and pregnant women would be provided intensive food aid for two months.

VOA added that the ICRC will also build houses for one-thousand families while installing water supply systems in five villages.

According to Radio Free Asia, the ICRC believes that 67 people went missing or died in North Korea due to floods this summer, based on statistics presented by North Korean authorities.
