Libya’s rebel forces have declared victory in their battle against Muammar Gadhafi after taking over the Libyan leader’s Bab al-Aziziyah complex in western Tripoli.

A rebel commander appeared on the Arabic satellite television Al Jazeera on Wednesday and said Gadhafi’s forces had run off and that the rebels had won the battle in Tripoli. However, the commander said that Gadhafi was not in the complex.

The last battle between rebels and Gadhafi forces that began on Wednesday, local time, came to an end later that day after the rebels took over Bab al-Aziziyah.
