More than two dozen people were taken to hospital in Japan following a collision of two tour buses carrying South Korean tourists in Kumamoto Prefecture.

South Korea’s consulate general in Fukuoka said a tour bus carrying some 40 South Korean high school students and another bus carrying roughly 40 South Korean tourists collided at around two p.m. Thursday in the city of Aso.

The 27 people who were transported to the hospital were all conscious and had suffered only minor injuries.

The buses collided on a section of road where construction was taking place following floods last year. Police believe the driver of the bus carrying the students misjudged a person directing traffic, leading to the accident.
