US Test Launches Intercontinental Ballistic Missile

The U.S. Air Force test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile from a base in California on Wednesday following a day-long delay over safety concerns.

The Associated Press reports the Minuteman-Three was launched at 6:27 a.m. Wednesday from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

A U.S. Air Force official said the missile flew six-thousand-740 kilometers and splashed down in waters near Kwajalein Atoll of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean 30 minutes later.

Wednesday’s test flight was the first Minuteman test-launch of this year.

The missile has a maximum range of 13-thousand kilometers and is capable of reaching North Korea and Iran.

The Associated Press said the U.S. has 450 nuclear-capable Minuteman-Three missiles ready for combat use.
