UN Reveals List of Possible Institutions, Individuals to Face Sanctions

The UN Security Council's committee on sanctioning North Korea has revealed a list of North Korean institutions, individuals and foreigners who will likely face additional sanctions for violating UN resolutions.

The list includes four North Korean institutions, eight North Koreans and three foreigners.

The four institutions likely to face additional sanctions are the North's newly-created Ministry of Atomic Energy Industry, the Munitions Industry Department of the Central Committee of the Korean Workers' Party, the State Space Development Bureau, and Hesong Trading Corporation.

The individuals include the head of the newly-created Ministry of Atomic Energy Industry, four senior officials at the Munitions Industry Department and an official of the trading firm.

The list also includes three foreigners, including one Kazakhstan citizen and two Ukrainians who are linked to dealing North Korean conventional weapons.

The UN Security Council's committee on sanctioning North Korea will meet as early as next month to discuss whether to impose sanctions on the additional North Korean institutions and individuals.

If the new additions are made, a total of 23 institutions and 23 individuals, including foreigners, will be subject to UN sanctions.
