U.S. Will Talk with N. Korea Once it Acts on Denuclearization

The United States has reiterated that it will resume dialogue with North Korea once Pyongyang acts on denuclearization.

U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesman Patrick Ventrell said Tuesday that "the onus is on North Korea to take meaningful actions toward denuclearization and refrain from provocations."

He made the remark after being asked to comment on a statement by North Korean Ambassador to the UN Sin Son-ho that North Korea wants to hold a peace treaty talk with the U.S.

Ventrell said that the North has promised on a number of occasions to scrap its nuclear weapons and nuclear programs, including in the September 19th Joint Statement in 2005, and the U.S. continues to hold the North to those commitments and its international obligations.
