China Urges N. Korea to Scrap Nuke Weapons Program

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged North Korea to scrap its nuclear weapons program.

Following a bilateral meeting with his North Korean counterpart Pak Ui-chun, Wang told reporters that he called on Pyongyang to give up its nuclear ambitions. The two foreign ministers’ meeting was held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum, which will open in Brunei on Tuesday.

Wang said that as the host country of the six-party nuclear talks, China urged the North to give up its nuclear program and return to dialogue.

The North Korean delegation said that there will be a chance for Pak to explain the regime’s positions before the regional security forum ends.

On Monday afternoon, a trilateral meeting among South Korean, Chinese and Japanese foreign ministers is scheduled while the top diplomats of South Korea and Japan will also hold a bilateral meeting.
