Kerry: No Policy Shift Regarding Asia

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says no changes have been made in Washington’s policies toward Asia.

Kerry said “there is no policy shift” when asked during a news conference on Monday that since he’s taken office, his actions seem to indicate a policy shift within the State Department towards the Middle East and Europe from Asia. Kerry was answering reporters’ questions at the ASEAN Regional Forum in Brunei.

Shifting the focus of U.S.’s foreign affairs policy from the Middle East to Asia was one of U.S. President Barack Obama’s key strategies during his first term. However, analyses have emerged that U.S. foreign affairs strategies will again center on the Middle East with Kerry as secretary of state.
