Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has appointed a Korean American Doane Liu as a deputy mayor.

Born in the U.S., Liu was named deputy mayor of city services. She will oversee the Department of Water and Power (DWP), the Department of Public Social Services, the Department of Recreation and Parks and the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

Liu graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 and worked in the banking industry before entering politics in Los Angeles.
