RFA: Top UN Sport Development Official Visiting N. Korea

Radio Free Asia says UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's special adviser on sport for development and peace is visiting North Korea at Pyongyang's request.

The U.S.-based broadcaster Radio Free Asia quoted UN Deputy Spokesman Eduardo del Buey as saying that special adviser Wilfried Lemke is on a four-day trip to the North which began last Saturday.

The spokesman added that Lemke will discuss with North Korean officials ways to promote sports for women and the disabled.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency earlier reported that Lemke visited the construction site for a skiing ground in Masikryong in Gangwon Province on Monday.

The North is planning to build its first public skiing ground in Masikryong under direct orders from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The project is regarded to be the North’s most important construction plan.
