Asiana Airlines has strongly dismissed speculations that the crash landing of its passenger jet in San Francisco was caused by inexperienced pilots' errors.
Asiana Airlines President and CEO Yoon Young-doo on Tuesday told reporters at a news conference that pilot Lee Kang-kuk had flown to San Francisco 29 times on a Boeing 747.
Yoon said that Lee, who was transition to fly the Boeing 777, is a veteran with sufficient experience to fly and land at San Francisco International Airport.
The airline's chief also defended supervising training captain Lee Jeong-min of the ill-fated jet, stressing his 32-hundred hour flight record with the 777 model and the 33 times he has taken off and landed at the airport.
Suspicions have been raised that Saturday's crash was caused by pilots’ inexperience after it was revealed that the main pilot Lee had only 43 hours of flying time on the 777 and the flight was the instructor pilot’s first mission as supervisory trainer.
