South Korea's First Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun urged North Korea on Tuesday to return to dialogue on denuclearization.

The vice minister made the call in a speech for the high-level segment of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, saying that the Korean Peninsula peace process is the South's commitment to achieve complete denuclearization and build a lasting peace in Northeast Asia.

In the virtual talks, Choi said that the inter-Korean military agreement signed in September 2018 provided strategic arms control at the basic level, turning the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone into a stable buffer zone and allowing the related parties to focus on the process for denuclearization.

The vice minister said in this context, Seoul asks Pyongyang to respond to its call for the resumption of dialogue.

Choi also said that South Korea will continue to cooperate with its allies and partners to achieve the common goal of complete denuclearization through peaceful means, adding it counts on the unwavering support of the international community.
