The film “Escape from Mogadishu,” an international political action thriller based on true events from the 1991 Somali civil conflict, has been sold to distributors in 50 countries. 

According to the film’s distributor, Lotte Entertainment, on Thursday, the movie, starring Zo In-sung and Kim Yoon-seok, was sold to buyers in North America, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Morocco and Japan, among others. 

The film, directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, has drawn positive reviews in North America since hitting theaters there last week. Lotte Entertainment said it is currently being screened in 42 theaters there, with requests to extend screening.

“Escape from Mogadishu” attracted more than one million domestic moviegoers in just seven days after its release on July 28, emerging as the top blockbluster this year. It is estimated to have drawn more than one-point-eight million moviegoers so far.

Based on real life events, the film depicts the story of diplomats from both South and North Korea having to join to forces to escape from Mogadishu during the Somali Civil War.
