The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also fell on the day, sledding 11-point-59 points, or one-point-26 percent, to close at 906-point-36.

On the foreign exchange, the local currency weakened 4-point-9 won against the U.S. dollar, closing at one-thousand-335-point-four won.
