Construction for offshore gas field development facilities has kicked off at a ceremony in the southeastern city of Ulsan. President Kim Daed-jung was on hand. The president said development of the gas field will spur the growth of the heavy industry, engineering, transportation and other relevant industries. The Donghae-One gas field is located in the continental shelf in waters of one-hundred-50 meters ... about 60 kilometers southeast of Ulsan. The gas field is estimated to have natural gas reserves of two hundred billion cubic meters ... an amount worth four million tons of liquified natural gas or 25 percent of the nation's total L-N-G consumption last year. The Korea Petroleum Development Corporation expects about one billion U.S. dollars in profits from sales of the natural gas. The production facility will be completed in November next year.
